Draft around an exterior door: weatherstripping or a bottom sweep?
A draft beside the latch and a draft beneath an exterior door point to different parts of the opening. Locate the affected edge before buying a seal: a bottom sweep will not close a gap along the side, and thicker frame weatherstripping may make closing harder.

Start with the location
With the door closed normally, note where you feel moving air or see daylight. Report the location without pulling off seals or forcing the door. DOE's exterior-door weatherization guidance treats daylight and a loose fit as clues and calls for door adjustments before weatherstripping.
- Top or sides: show the seal between the door and frame, including any flattened, torn or missing section.
- Bottom edge: photograph the existing sweep or door bottom and the threshold beneath it.
- Lower corner: include both adjoining edges in one photo so the junction can be reviewed.
- Around stationary trim: show that separately; replacing the moving door's seal may not address that location.
Check the profile, not just the length
Therma-Tru describes different weatherstrip profiles for the frame and door bottoms designed to mate with its sills. Its single- and dual-bulb bottoms serve different sill types. That is a useful reason to identify the door system before choosing a replacement; it is not a sizing rule for other brands.
Attachment matters too. Frost King's listings distinguish snap-in, screw-on and slide-on bottoms, including a replacement specified for Stanley doors. A package marked with the right door width does not establish that its attachment, shape or reach fits your opening.
Send any available door brand or model, a close view of the existing seal's visible end, and the proposed product link. Leave intact seals in place for the initial review. If the part cannot be identified, ask for inspection before ordering.
Keep door movement in the scope
Include existing rubbing or latch trouble in the request. Ask the installer to verify smooth movement and normal latch and lock operation after the seal work. Resistance that requires slamming is a reason to revisit the fit, not an acceptable trade for less draft.
This advice concerns exterior-door leakage. An interior door's bottom gap can serve an air-return function; do not seal it simply because air passes through it. Keep intentional ventilation openings clear. For a labeled fire-rated door, have appropriate replacement components reviewed by a qualified door professional.
Request the work by component
For an Irvine or nearby Orange County visit, send your city, door photos and affected edges. Ask whether the proposed scope covers frame weatherstripping, the bottom seal, threshold work or an adjustment, and who will supply the confirmed parts. Scope and availability need confirmation before a visit.
