Replacing bulbs across a room? Choose brightness and color separately
Before buying a large pack of replacement bulbs, decide what you want each light to do. The table lamp, pendant and covered hallway fixture may need different bulbs even when you want them to look coordinated. A short bulb list helps separate the choices that should match from those that depend on the fixture.

Separate more light from a different color
The Department of Energy distinguishes lumens, the amount of visible light a bulb produces, from watts, its power input. Color temperature, expressed in kelvin or K, describes the light's warm-to-cool appearance. A higher kelvin number is not the same thing as more lumens.
Write down which problem you want to change: too little light on a reading chair, or a cooler-looking lamp beside warmer ceiling lights. Record the current bulb's lumens and kelvin from saved packaging or product records. Keeping one value steady while comparing the other makes your choice easier to explain.
Review the appearance before ordering the whole room
For a coordinated appearance, start by comparing the listed kelvin values rather than relying only on names such as soft white. DOE notes that a substantial color-temperature change can be conspicuous. There is no single setting this guide prescribes for every room.
Ask whether a suitable sample can be assessed in the intended fixture before the full order. Look from the sofa, dining chair and doorway at the times you normally use the room. Mark which sample you prefer and keep its exact model number; a photo or a remembered box color is a poor purchasing record.
Check enclosure and moisture suitability separately
Feit's OM60DM/927CA/4/48 specification lists bulb shape, base, dimensions, voltage, enclosure suitability and location rating separately. That is a useful model for your checklist, not a recommendation for every fixture. Have the selected bulb checked against the fixture's instructions and limits.
Feit's LED guidance requires enclosure-rated bulbs for enclosed fixtures and says the fixtures must not have rubber gaskets. It also distinguishes damp-rated bulbs from products suited to exposed wet conditions. An enclosure claim does not settle moisture suitability. Send a photo of the intact fixture and its location; leave concealed labels or uncertain conditions for professional assessment.
Finish one purchase list, including the controls
Feit directs buyers to check whether an LED is dimmable and consult its compatible-dimmer information. For lights on a dimmer, have the exact bulb and control combination reviewed before ordering. Any proposed wiring or control replacement needs a separate qualified electrical assessment.
- Location and quantity: for example, two pendants and one covered hallway light.
- Exact bulb model and selected variant, with lumens and kelvin recorded.
- Base, shape, dimensions and supply requirements checked for each fixture type.
- Enclosure and location suitability confirmed, plus the dimmer model where relevant.
Keep the decision with the project request
Send Coast & Craft the list, product links and any unresolved choices. State who will supply the bulbs and which fixtures are difficult to reach. Agree on the accepted work before purchasing the full quantity or treating a requested time as a confirmed visit. Keep the final list for future replacements.
