Replacing several light fixtures? Make one clear project list

Give each light a location on the list

A shopping cart with four fixtures does not show where each one goes. Use short labels such as Kitchen 1, Kitchen 2 and Hallway, then use those same labels for your photos and product links. Include quantities when two locations use the same model.

Here is a sample list you can adapt for your own rooms.

• Kitchen: two matching pendants at the existing locations; product link attached; hanging length still to be decided.
• Hallway: one flush-mount light replacing the existing fixture; photo includes the nearby door.
• Bathroom: one vanity light above the mirror; product link and mirror dimensions attached; dimmer compatibility needs review.

Check the proportions before buying

For a pendant or chandelier, include the ceiling height, the table or island beneath it, and the product's listed dimensions. Kichler's selection guide considers the room dimensions, fixture shape and hanging height together. A fixture that looks right in an empty product photo can feel very different over your actual table.

Take one wide photo from the floor so the surrounding furniture and access are visible. Mention a sloped ceiling, stairwell or unusually high location. Do not climb onto furniture or remove a fixture to get a better photo.

Keep the product details together

Save the exact model number and installation manual, not just the collection name. Include the listed fixture weight and whether bulbs, extension stems or other accessories are included. Leave the mounting and electrical suitability for the qualified professional to assess.

State whether the light is replacing something in the same location or moving elsewhere. Ask about the ceiling finish too: a different canopy may leave part of the old footprint visible, so patching or painting should be discussed separately. Do not take the old canopy down to investigate.

Say what you want the switches to do

Keep the existing switch, add dimming, or add a smart control? Write the desired result beside each location. Include a photo of the control as it is, plus a model number from your records if available.

Lutron provides model-specific compatibility information for its dimmers and LED products. A bulb being labeled dimmable is not enough to assume every control will work with it. Share the bulb or integrated fixture model so compatibility can be checked; you do not need to pull a switch out of the wall.

Confirm what the visit includes

Before choosing a date, note which products have arrived and whether anything is damaged or missing. Keep each fixture's packaging, instructions and hardware together so similar kits do not get mixed up.

Ask for the accepted work to identify the fixture locations, any electrical changes, ceiling repairs, bulb supply and removal of old fixtures. A request covering several lights does not by itself confirm that all of them can be completed in one visit.
