Adding a sink soap dispenser? Check the hole, countertop and bottle space
A built-in soap dispenser can clear a bottle from the counter, but the pump is only the visible part. Its mounting assembly and bottle need room below the sink, and the existing hole must suit the model. Check that whole space before choosing a finish or requesting a new countertop hole.

Identify the opening you plan to use
Show where the dispenser would go and what is there now: an old dispenser, a plain cover or another sink accessory. Do not remove an unfamiliar fitting simply because it occupies a convenient hole. Have its function and any connections checked first.
For an accessible unused opening, provide the known diameter and a photo; leave hidden measurements to the visit. Moen lists a 1-1/8-inch hole for its 3942 dispenser. That is a model specification, not a universal drilling size for every soap pump. A wider decorative base does not establish that the mounting hardware will fit.
Measure the mounting thickness, not just the visible edge
The installer needs to assess the material the shank passes through and the room for securing it underneath. Supply the countertop and sink information you have, including any build-up or support around the proposed location.
Published limits differ: Moen lists a maximum deck thickness of 2-1/4 inches for its 3942, while Delta lists 2-13/16 inches for RP50813SS. Confirm the selected model's instructions and included hardware against the actual installation. Do not assume an extension part from another model will work.
If a new hole or an enlarged opening is needed, ask who will assess and perform that countertop work. Treat it as an additional scope decision, particularly when the material or construction is unknown.
Check the cabinet with the bottle in mind
Photograph the area beneath the proposed pump from a comfortable, accessible position. Show nearby sink supports, plumbing, pull-out storage and the path of any retracting faucet hose. Ask the installer to compare the complete dispenser drawing with that space.
Allow for reaching the mounting connection and servicing or replacing the bottle later. A clear patch of countertop can still have an obstruction underneath. Keep the pump location provisional until both sides have been assessed.
Choose how you will refill and use it
Both the Moen 3942 and Delta RP50813SS are designed to refill from above; their listed capacities are 18 and 13 ounces respectively. Top filling can simplify routine use, but it does not remove the need for access during installation or a later bottle repair.
Check whether you can comfortably press the pump and lift its head without bumping the faucet, backsplash or nearby shelf. Ask which liquid and cleaning method the chosen manufacturer's instructions permit, and keep those instructions with the product record.
For an existing dispenser, identify the failed part first
If the pump has stopped dispensing but the base remains secure, describe that separately from a cracked bottle or loose mounting. Moen warns that its different dispenser repair kits are not interchangeable. A photo and model reference can help establish whether the request needs the correct pump or bottle rather than a complete replacement.
Send Coast & Craft the photos, model details and your city for scope review. Include any proposed countertop alteration and confirm the accepted work before arranging a visit. A freestanding dispenser remains an option if a built-in location cannot be made suitable.
