Replacing a garbage disposal? Check the mount, connections and control
Keeping the kitchen sink does not make every garbage disposal a direct replacement. The new unit must work with the sink mount, surrounding cabinet space, drain arrangement and electrical supply. Its control matters too: keeping a wall switch and adding a countertop air button are different requests.

Identify the existing unit and the proposed mount
Find the current model in a receipt, manual or visible label, and send the replacement's complete product number. Leave the disposal and mounting assembly in place for assessment.
Moen says its Universal Xpress Mount fits its disposals and most existing three-bolt mounting assemblies. That is a compatibility claim with limits, not proof that any old mounting ring can stay. Ask the installer to confirm the actual match and condition, and whether the sink flange or mounting assembly will be replaced.
Compare the connections as well as the body size
Moen's selection guide calls out overall height and width plus the positions of the drain and dishwasher connections. Compare those details on the candidate's specification sheet with the installation you have; a unit that fits inside the cabinet can still put its connections in different places.
Provide an open-cabinet photo showing the disposal, drain, dishwasher hose, filters and storage. Have the plumbing professional identify connection changes and confirm installation and service access. Do not disconnect anything to improve the photo.
Check the power accessory for that exact model
State whether the existing disposal plugs into an outlet or has a direct electrical connection; if uncertain, mark it unknown. Using a wall switch does not settle which arrangement you have.
For the models it covers, InSinkErator's EZ Connect manual requires its EZ Connect cord or hardwire adapter. Its replacement instructions also prohibit reusing the existing cord. This is a reason to check the new model's manual and package contents, not to assume every disposal uses the same accessories. Have any electrical changes assessed and performed by the appropriately qualified professional.
Decide whether the control is staying
Record whether the current unit uses a wall switch, a sink or countertop button, or a stopper-operated batch-feed control. Tell the provider if you want to change that arrangement instead of assuming the replacement includes it.
An air button does not eliminate the need for electricity. Moen's ARC-4200 specification, for example, requires an outlet under the sink and a separately sold finished button. Its controller, tubing and button mounting assembly also need space. These are requirements for that accessory; confirm the compatible control for your selected disposal.
If adding a button, ask whether an existing suitable hole can be used and whether any countertop alteration would be needed. Agree on that work separately before ordering the control.
Make the replacement request complete
Send Coast & Craft your city, model information, cabinet photo and preferred control arrangement. Mention the replacement reason and any leak or electrical problem so the team can confirm scope and the appropriate provider before agreeing to a visit.
- Specify who supplies the unit, approved power accessories and control.
- Identify mounting, plumbing and electrical changes separately.
- Include removal of the old unit and checks of operation and connections at handover.
