A small bathroom refresh: plan the work and the handover

A new faucet, fresh wall paint and resealed shower can share one project, but they may have different completion and drying times. If this is your only bathroom, plan who handles each stage and when the toilet, sink and shower can be used again before agreeing on the work dates.

Confirm what has arrived before anything comes out

Record the approved faucet or seat model, its delivery status and who checks the kit against the installation instructions. Keep paint and sealant selections on the same plan. An expected delivery is a reason to reserve time provisionally, not to remove a working fixture.

If an item is delayed, ask which other work can proceed without blocking its later installation. Agree on a revised date before committing the household to bathroom downtime.

Name the person responsible at each handoff

Identify who removes and reinstalls fixtures, checks operation, repairs exposed wall areas, paints, seals the specified joints and removes waste. Include any return visit. A fixture replacement price should not leave you guessing who repairs the surrounding finish.

Have any additional plumbing or electrical work assessed and assigned to the appropriate professional before coordinating the finish work. Confirm which tasks Coast & Craft has accepted.

Agree on a sequence for the actual room

For a faucet swap, wall repaint and shower reseal, discuss this starting sequence: fixture work and checks; agreed surface repairs and painting; then the specified exposed sealant. Revise it where access behind fixtures or product instructions require a different order. Seals needed during fixture assembly belong in that installation stage.

For example, Delta's 15748LF instructions include flushing and checking connections for leaks. CUSTOM's Commercial 100% Silicone Sealant specifies painting before its application. These are product-specific handoffs for the installers to coordinate, not a universal order for every bathroom.

Leave with separate use times

Ask about water interruptions and whether safe toilet and handwashing access can be maintained between stages. Arrange another bathroom if access cannot be confirmed.

Write a short handover: toilet available from ___; sink available from ___; shower available from ___; cleaning allowed from ___; remaining visit and contact ___. Include product names and any conditions attached to those times.

Benjamin Moore Aura Bath & Spa Matte 532 illustrates why this matters: its one-hour recoat time at 77°F and 50% relative humidity differs from its recommendation to allow at least 24 hours before full service. Cool or humid conditions lengthen those times. Use the actual paint and sealant instructions together when confirming shower use.

Send Coast & Craft your room photos, planned changes and delivery status, and say if it is your only bathroom.
